Notes
- Internally, this was called “Honey, I Shrunk the Runabout”, although I doubt it was ever in any real consideration for the final/public episode title.
- This script originally started as a pitch by René Ecchevaria back on TNG before their third season. Was rejected there, and twice rejected earlier in DS9’s run before finally getting accepted and assigned to the two credited writers to write formally.
- This episode sets up two different kind of Jem’Hadar warriors. Ones made in the Alpha Quadrant, and others in the Gamma. However, this was never expanded on beyond this episode, and the idea was dropped.
- During earlier times when this was being constructed, brief consideration was given to using either the Pakleds or Harry Mudd in place of the Jem’Hadar.
- The character of Genlon appears in the next episode “Honor Above Thieves“. However, I don’t believe this was intentional, because this episode was produced before “Far Beyond The Stars” but aired after due to the larger amount of special effects required.
- The only episode where we see a runabout firing photon torpedoes.
- This episode was nominated for a 1998 Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Visual Effects for a Series.
- Scott Thomas Baker, who played the Jem’Hadar named Kudak’Etan later appeared in an episode (Drive, They Said) of the TV series “Becker” with Terry Farrell, who was a series regular there.
- Gelnon (the Vorta) was played by Leland Crooke. Crooke also appeared as Plinn in the Star Trek Enterprise episode “Precious Cargo“.

#StarTrekMarathon Deep Space Nine Ep 138 - One Little Ship - 16 Feb 1998 2/2 deep as this one gets. A bit of a lighter episode after the heaviest of all heavies that was last one. The big drama is that the Defiant is captured by Jem'Hadar and the shrunken ship helps to rescue them. Fun episode.
