Redemption

This Story: Season 2 Episode 1 (production code 201)
B7 Overall: Episode 14
Airdate: 9 Jan 1979 (7:20PM UK time)
Duration: 49:40
Filming Dates: 31 Jul – 2 Aug & 17-18 Aug 1978
Written by Terry Nation
Directed by Vere Lorrimer

Notes

  • The first episode of Series B, and the first one produced as well.
  • The voice of Orac is from this point forward done by Peter Tuddenham, who also did Zen & Slave.
  • The Spaceworld interiors were shot at the real life Oldbury nuclear power plant. The same location was also used in the episode “Killer“.  Outside of Blake’s 7 it was also used in the Doctor Who episode “The Hand of Fear“.
  • Harriet Philpin appears here was “Alta Two”.  She was also in the Doctor Who serial “Genesis of the Daleks” as Bettan.
  • Shiela Ruskin appears here as “Alta One”. She was also in the Doctor Who serial “The Keeper of Traken” as Kassia, Nyssa’s step-mother.  Ruskin would revive the role of “Alta One” in the Big Finish story “Restoration“.
  • Some of the events of the episode “Space Fall” are mentioned here.
  • The Alta’s name for the Liberator is “Deep Space Vehicle 2” (DSV II).  The “2” plays into prophecy Orac had in the last episode about the “Liberator” being destroyed.
  • ADMIN NOTE: At the time I did this episode, I did have the Season 2 blu-ray set, but my computer couldn’t rip it, so I couldn’t take screenshots from that version. The screenshots on this page are from the older DVD set.

#B7Marathon #Blakes7 Blake's 7 Ep 14 - "Redemption" - 9 Jan 1979 1/2 Series B starts with an ep that on first viewing I quite liked, but doesn't seem to hold up dramatically. The Liberator is captured by the folks who originally made it. Blake & crew are to be executed - most of the time is spent

#B7Marathon #Blakes7 Blake's 7 Ep 14 - "Redemption" - 9 Jan 1979 2/2 trying to escape, but lacks some punch. They filmed at a nuclear power plant, which made for a nice look. The new SFX are QUITE nice for the Spaceworld station. The first ep with Orac integrated, & we get to see what he can do.
