Basics, Part I

This Story: Season 2 Episode 26 (production code 142)
VOY Overall: Episode 42
Trek Overall: Story 473a, Episode 498
Airdate: 20 May 1996
Written by Michael Piller
Directed by Winrich Kolbe

Notes

  • Running fired torpedo count: 14 (3 this episode) / Confirmed crew deaths since pilot: 8 (crew of 146).
  • Torpedo note: We do see them fire three, and then Janeway gives an order to fire more, but that is not shown. It’s unclear if they were actually fired or not.
  • The last episode of Season 2, and the first two parter for Voyager.
  • The second episode of the series showing the ship landing on a planet.
  • The third and final time the self destruct command is issued, but the self destruct system was damaged, and it wouldn’t work.
  • The second of three episodes with the character of Lon Suder (the first being “Meld“).
  • The projection of holographic spaceships mirrors to some extent the plot of a TAS episode “The Practical Joker“.
  • Features the return of Henry Darrow as Kolopak (Chakotay’s father), last seen in “Tattoo“.

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Voyager Ep 42 - Basics, Pt I - 20 May 1996 2/2 premise here is a bit unbelievable (like TNG's Rascals). In the end, a couple of crew members the Kazon didn't know about are left aboard, leading to the recovery of the ship in Pt 2. A good action ep tho , lot of fun here.
