Future’s End
This Story: Season 3 Episodes 8 & 9 (production codes 150 & 151)
VOY Overall: Episodes 50 & 51
Trek Overall: Story 480, Episodes 506-507
Airdate: 6 Nov & 13 Nov 1996
Written by Brannon Braga & Joe Menosky
Directed by David Livingston (Pt I) & Cliff Bole (Pt II)
Notes (Part I)
- Running fired torpedo count: 17 / Confirmed crew deaths since pilot: 11 (crew of 143).
- Technically Part I of this is just called “Future’s End”, not “Future’s End Part I” – this is inconsistent across Star Trek incarnations. Some have Part I, others (like this) do not.
- The outdoor beach/boardwalk scenes were filmed at Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica, CA. There was also filming at the famous Griffith Observatory as well.
- Henry Starling was played by Ed Begley Jr, who is famous for any number of things, but I know well from Young Sheldon.
- Rain Robinson was played by Sarah Silverman, who is known for a bunch of voice work and stand up comedy. She was also a writer and occasional on screen talent for Saturday Night Live in the 90’s right before doing Voyager.
- The first time we get mention of a Starfleet from the 29th Century that handles temporal problems, and repairs to the timeline. With that comes the character of Braxton, who here is played by Allan G. Royal. The next time we see the character (Relativity), he’s played by someone else.
- This two parter takes place in 1996, which in (original) Star Trek’s past is when the Eugenics Wars were to have happened. No mention is made of those events.
- The character of Rain Robinson has a toy model of the SS Botany Bay ship in her office – Khan’s original ship from Wrath of Khan.
- The first episode to show Harry Kim in command of Voyager.
- The only episode of the entire series where Tuvok refers to Tom Paris as “Tom”.
- The only episode of the series where Neelix & Kes visit the Alpha Quadrant.

Voyager gets thrown back in time due to some timey-wimey smeg to current time Earth (1996 when new). The crew has to go incognito to figure out how to get back. That's the fun of this story. While there, they run
