Demon

This Story: Season 4 Episode 24 (production code 192)
VOY Overall: Episode 92
Trek Overall: Story 517, Episode 547
Airdate: 6 May 1998
Story by André Bormanis
Teleplay by Kenneth Biller
Directed by Anson Williams

Notes

  • Running fired torpedo count: 23 / Confirmed crew deaths since pilot: 18 (crew of 143 (my count says 135)).
  • This episode was directed by Anson Williams, more popularly known as Potsie Weber on Happy Days.
  • The Season 5 episode “Course Oblivion” was a direct sequel to this episode, and was also directed by Williams.
  • A working title for this episode was “Demon Rock”.  (Works much better as just “Demon”, IMO).
  • Vorik makes an appearance here, again played by Alexander Enberg.
  • The first episode with Roaxann Dawson in a few now, as she went into labor during the making of “The Omega Directive“, and subsequently was out on maternity leave. They also no longer tried to hide her pregnancy here for the first time in quite awhile.
  • There are similar plot points to an animated Star Trek episode – “The Ambergris Element“. In both, characters had their respiratory systems altered to allow them to function in a hostile environment.
  • The first episode showing Voyager operating in what’s effectively “Low power Mode” (hello iPhone).  Although here it’s called “Gray Mode”.  It would be seen again in the episode “Counterpoint“.
  • The transporter technician was played by Susan Lewis.  She played various background characters in a handful of episodes (including about a dozen on DS9).  However, she was the primary double for Roxanne Dawson during filming, having done so in 52 different Voyager episodes.

Eventually Voyager recharges to 100% and off they go. This ep is more interesting than I make it sound - liked this one.

My prior physical copies of Star Trek: Voyager looked this way.
