Observer Effect
This Story: Season 4 Episode 11 (production code 187)
ENT Overall: Episode 87
Trek Overall: Story 676, Episode 715
Airdate: 21 Jan 2005
Written by Judith & Garfield Reeeves-Stevens
Directed by Mike Vejar
Notes
- Two bottle episodes in a row.
- One of I believe only two episodes that contain zero guest stars of any kind – the only actors are the regular cast (except a couple of background characters in a single scene at the start).
- Hoshi speaks eight languages in this episode (one of which is English).
- We have a decon scene in this episode (the first since “Bounty“), but it’s not one of the gel kind we got in the first two scenes.
- The Organians are used here – but not seen, since they’re non corporeal and inhabit our crew. The only other time they were “seen” was in their other appearance in the TOS episode “Errand of Mercy“.

It's a meh ep, although Hoshi got some good character dev. Another of those "Hey, aliens are going to take over our crew to see how they behave"

ones. We've DONE THAT BEFORE - on Enterprise (hello "The Crossing"). The only amusing part of that is the aliens are The Organians - the same race from TOS's "Errand of Mercy". An interesting angle for a TOS fan, but the "crew taken over by aliens" thing is an "OH GOD - NOT THIS AGAIN" for me. Meh.

One thing I thought of after I posted this.. There were some nice directorial choices. Interesting camera angles, and several scenes that we as the audience saw only on a monitor on the ship being filmed by the camera. I quite liked that part of it, to be honest.
