Notes

• The season 1 finale, which includes the end of the Klingon War arc.
• Jason Isaacs is credited, but he does not appear.
• The behind the scenes info establishes that Mary Wiseman & Sonequa Martin-Green are vegetarian in real life.
• We see the USS Enterprise NCC-1701 here, commanded by Pike.  It is supposed to be the same physical ship we saw in the original series, but obviously they designed something for modern audiences.
• We have a cameo here by Clint Howard, who played an unnamed Orion.   He previously played Balok (as a child) in the TOS episode “The Corbomite Maneuver“.  He was also Grady in the DS9 episode “Past Tense, Part II“, and a Ferengi named Muk in Enterprise’s “Acquisition“.  He will also play Buck Martinez in the Strange New Worlds episode “Under the Cloak of War“.
• This episode establishes the male Klingons have two penises.  Also by showing for the first time urination in the franchise.
• The first time we see Earth in the series.
• The space station “Spacedock One” is shown being constructed here.  It appears in several TOS era movies.
• The Klingon High Council ends up being led by L’Rell at the end of the episode.  In universe, this makes her the first ever female leader of the Council.  This of course contradicts TNG era stuff which says that women can’t do that.
• This episode was nominated for an Emmy Award for “Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup for a Series, Limited Series, Movie or Special.”
• In the Klingon market, it appears one of the people cooking food are frying whatever those things were called that Khan put in Chekov’s ear in Wrath of Khan.
• The closing credits of this episode used the original closing theme from the Original Series by Alexander Courage vs its own theme song.
