The Brain of Morbius
The Brain of Morbius
This Story: Season 13, Story 5. Production Code 4K
Overall: Story 84, Episodes 418-421
Airdates: 3 Jan 1976 to 24 Jan 1976
Written by Robin Bland (Terrance Dicks)
Directed by Christopher Barry
Notes
- The “Morbius Doctors” from here founded the basis of Chris Chibnall’s “The Timeless Children” from New Who Series 12. He postulated that not only were the Morbius Doctors incarnations before Hartnell, there were a TON of them prior to Hartnell. I often wonder what Terrance Dicks who wrote this would have thought of the newer development.

This is a story I never cared for in the past, because I was against the concept it postulates that Hartnell wasn't the first Doctor. I could ignore it as fanwank until 2020 ep pic.twitter.com/ZnUAXoIujt

The Timeless Children. I now actively wish the Morbius story didn't do this, so I'll see if I enjoy this at all. Solon (Philip Madoc) was the War Lord in "The War Games". pic.twitter.com/lxDt7oUOZ1

I have a friend who is a big time Hammer Horror fan, and he calls this a masterpiece. I can see why - it's sort of a Frankenstein type story set in the Doctor Who world. It's also pic.twitter.com/XLeHLQ0krG

very dark, which I'm sure is meant to be atmospheric, but it feels cheap to me. Liked talking about the Time Lords here - the Sisterhood of Karn are introduced in this story. pic.twitter.com/BjU7vWxzD7

Sarah was blinded in last ep, that continues here. I had forgotten the Sisterhood of Karn was out to kill the Doctor here. Their appearances in modern Who are quite different. pic.twitter.com/n79s4qtl9x

The Doctor convinces the sisterhood to let him help them, saving the sacred flame. Always wished we got to dive into the sisterhood deeper in another Doctor Who story. Never did. pic.twitter.com/XJ3jxzHW4x

OK, this is the ep that annoyed me with the "Pre-Hartnell Doctors". Looking past that, we wrap up the story, which is a distinct horror feel in a way that hasn't really been done pic.twitter.com/3G9ysbi14Y

in Who. Liz Sladen had great performance this story, and I thought Phillip Madoc was excellent. Just the overall concept wasn't my cup of tea, although it was clearly done well. pic.twitter.com/PePPqR666g
