Assignment: Earth

This Story: Season 2 Episode 26 (production code 2.26)
TOS Overall: Story 55, Episode 56
Trek Overall: Story 55, Episode 56
Airdate: 29 Mar 1968
Written by Art Wallace & Gene Roddenberry
Directed by Marc Daniels

Notes

  • This was intended to be a pilot to a spinoff series that was never made.
  • Teri Garr was a guest star in this episode.  She apparently had such a miserable time making this that she refuses to talk about it to this day.
  • The Beta 5 computer & the Isis the Cat vocalizations were voiced by Barbara Babcock.  She was previously in Star Trek as “Mea 3” in the episode “A Taste of Armageddon“.
  • The human form of Isis the cat was played by April Tatro.
  • They casually mention the time travel aspect of this story as it takes place in 1968 (real time).  The method used references (very lightly) the events of “The Naked Time“.

S2 ends with this. It was a pilot for a spinoff that never happened. Gary Seven was a human who had been taken to another planet and returned here to save humanity from itself. That's the main plot of this; pic.twitter.com/yY40dXZn6l

saving the world by infiltrating NASA & sabotaging a rocket. I imagine if it went to series it would have been a lot like that. Teri Garr is in this in an early role. Would have loved explanation of the cat. pic.twitter.com/GyRy9elM0p

I loved in this scene, the doors open just a small amount for the cat, and not fully. :)
