- Michelle Forbes’ first appearance in Star Trek is in this episode, but not as the character she’d be far more famous for later (Ensign Ro Laren).
- David Ogden Stiers is the main guest in this episode. In one scene in engineering a panel he is sitting next to says “Composite Sensor Analysis – 4077” – a reference to his time on the TV show “M*A*S*H“.
