This Story: Season 2 Episode 5 (production code 2.5)
TAS Overall: Episode 21
Trek Overall: Story 100, Episode 101
Airdate: 5 Oct 1974
Written by Russell Bates & David Wise

Notes

  • This episode was directed by Bill Reed despite the closing credits saying they were directed by Hal Sutherland.
  • One of the co-writers (Russell Bates) was an actual Kiowa Native American, which lent credence to various aspects of this plot.
  • Sulu was not in this episode, instead the Helmsman was “Lt. Walking Bear”.

This was one as a kid I didn't care for - I thought it was a "message" episode. That was wrong of course, it's about Native American culture. As an adult, I really like that the ep was pic.twitter.com/6AyFvsh7CH

written by an actual Native American - nice angle. Overall a story on how humans moved past the need to "worship gods". As a kid, I didn't care for it, but as an adult, I liked this one. pic.twitter.com/WaDCULtXac

Lt. Walking Bear, and not Sulu.
