The Counter-Clock Incident

This Story: Season 2 Episode 6 (production code 2.6)
TAS Overall: Episode 22
Trek Overall: Story 101, Episode 102
Airdate: 12 Oct 1974

Notes

  • The last episode of the series.
  • The first episode that showed the original captain of the Enterprise on screen – Robert April.  The next time the character would appear would be the pilot episode of Star Trek Strange New Worlds in 2022.
  • There is a brief reference here to the events of the TOS episode, “All Our Yesterdays“.
  • This episode was directed by Bill Reed despite the closing credits saying they were directed by Hal Sutherland.

Tweet 1 was long, here is the full text: TAS comes to an end with this, one of my favorite episodes. When Gene Roddenberry was making Star Trek, one of his original names for the ship captain was Robert April. That was never shown on screen – until now. It’s been well established that Chris Pike was captain before Kirk, but it was said here that Robert April was the original Captain of the Enterprise. This was never followed up on again until Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. This one is where ST:TAS ends – after just 22 episodes. This was the first time I recall in life a TV show I was actively watching was canceled while watching. Something that happened a LOT in my lifetime. :(

This ep has a nice message that older folks still have value to society at their age. It's got a sci-fi twist (de-aging regulars), but that was always my take. Reset a bit fast at the end, tho. pic.twitter.com/fdxoGPpjKc
