Pete

This Story: Season 8, Episodes 6 & 7
Overall: Story 47, Episodes 50 & 51
Airdate: 25 Mar – 1 Apr 1999 (UK), 7 Mar 1999 (US)
Written by Doug Naylor & Paul Alexander (Pt 2 only)
Directed by Ed Bye

Notes

  • This is a two part episode, “Pete Parts 1 & 2”.
  • Personal Note: The sequence in Part 2 where Hollister does his speech about “do you know what happens to a Dinosaur when it eats….” is my wife’s favorite Red Dwarf joke in the entire series.
  • Pete Part 2 is the last episode of Red Dwarf written (either in full or in part) by anyone else other than Doug Naylor. From the next episode onwards (Only The Good…), every single episode is written by Doug Naylor (as of Spring 2024).

#RedDwarfMarathon Ep 50 - Pete Pt 1 - 25 Mar 1999 1/2 Pt 1 consists mostly of Lister & Rimmer getting in trouble over various pranks (which are funny), ending up in "the hole" and meeting a prisoner who has a bird called Pete. They're broken out by Bob the Skutter, and find the

#RedDwarfMarathon Ep 50 - Pete Pt 1 - 25 Mar 1999 2/2 entire crew is frozen in time (except our guys). When Kryten tries using the time wand to fix things, it ends up changing Pete back to an earlier lifeform - a dinosaur who is now rampaging around the ship, eating his owner.

"Follow the Rimmer Shaped Blur". Love that line. To stop the dino, Lister makes the largest curry ever causing the dino to get an upset stomach, setting off well, something that Capt Hollister describes quite amusingly. pic.twitter.com/djhOavgmUR

Pt 2 isn't as good as Pt 1 - Kryten's penis joke isn't too funny. In fact, most of the stuff in Pt 2 is kind of "meh". They reset the dino, but not b4 it lays an egg, and the baby dino is just ignored, no resolution. pic.twitter.com/wR454D9Q5a
