The Alternate

This Story: Season 2 Episode 12 (production code 432)
DS9 Overall: Episode 32
Trek Overall: Story 298, Episode 312
Airdate: 10 Jan 1994
Story by Jim Trombetta & Bill Dial
Teleplay by Bill Dial
Directed by David Carson

Notes

  • Ben Sisko implies that his father has died, but he’s later shown to be very much alive.
  • Dr Pol was supposed to be played by Rene Auberjonois similar to Brent Spiner/Data, Luis Zimmerman/Voyager Doctor, but it was scrapped to to extreme makeup concerns.
  • Dr Pol returns for one other episode – Season 5’s “The Begotten“.
  • Dr Pol’s hairstyle was created similar to Odo’s to match a line in the Season 1 episode “The Forsaken” where Odo claims his hair was modeled after his “mentor” (Dr Pol).
  • The place that Odo and crew land at has a building that reminds me of the building from “Blood Oath” where the Albino was hiding out.

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Deep Space Nine Ep 32 - The Alternate - 10 Jan 1994 1/2 A good Odo ep. The Doctor who took care of Odo when he was first discovered returns with evidence that there's more of his race; Odo might not be the only one. Some good character background. They do find a lifeform

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Deep Space Nine Ep 32 - The Alternate - 10 Jan 1994 2/2 who is like Odo, but it dies. Odo is affected by gas on the planet - he turns into this monster who wants revenge. Some great acting by Rene Auberjonois - mostly in his eyes, cuz Odo's makeup isn't very expressive.
