Valiant

This Story: Season 6 Episode 22 (production code 546)
DS9 Overall: Episode 146
Trek Overall: Story 404, Episode 427
Airdate: 4 May 1998
Writer: Ronald D. Moore
Director: Michael Vejar

Notes

  • The plot of this episode is very similar to the plot of “The First Duty” on STTNG – both of which were written by Ronald D. Moore.
  • The name Valiant is what Ron Moore wanted to name DS9’s Defiant, but was told he couldn’t because it started with the letter “V” as Voyager was well into early production yet.  The Valiant name itself is a reference back to the SS Valiant from “Where No Man Has Gone Before“.
  • Red Squad had previously appeared in “Homefront” & “Paradise Lost“.
  • David Drew Gallagher appeared here as Riley Aldrin Shepard.  He had previously played the same character in the episode “Paradise Lost“.
  • The majority of the regular DS9 cast have only a token appearance. 95% of the screen time is just Jake & Nog (with the cadets).
  • ADMIN NOTE: The BlueSky posts say 3 May, that was a mistake – it was 4 May.

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Deep Space Nine Ep 146 - Valiant - 3 May 1998 1/2 I have mixed feelings on this one. On the positive side it's got some good character development stuff for Nog. On the bad side the cadets he spends most of his time with are jerks and you kind of wish the Dominion would

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Deep Space Nine Ep 146 - Valiant - 3 May 1998 2/2 just wipe them out. It's got a lot of similar points to the TNG ep "The First Duty" - both by Ronald D. Moore. This had a really weird feel, and I just kind of wished it would end the entire time, Nog the only good part.
