U2 are better than the Beatles

The Beatles are founding fathers of music, and they deserve some respect for that. However, U2 has been more solid over a far longer period of time releasing NEW MUSIC. Yeah, the Beatles have been around for a far longer number of years, but put together the years they were together, and compare it to the number of years that U2 has been around.

U2 had a few down years in the 90’s (Zooropa, Pop), but they have more rock solid albums from front to back than any other artist I can think of. U2 wins hands down over the Beatles.

That is all.

I’d just like to say your exactly right about everything you wrote there EXCEPT I don’t consider Zooropa and Pop were bad albums at all. Some awesome U2 songs came from those, plus Bono’s favourite (of the moment) Stay Faraway So Close. Glad to see someone else shares my opinion regarding U2 and The Beatles.

U2 is good but the real test will be in 30 years. If 30 years from now their are U2 impersonator groups, radio shows & station devoted entirely to U2 then you may be proven right.
As of today U2 has produced 14 albums, the Beatles produced 13 albums in a much shorter period of time and if you count their “best of albums” and their indivudual albums the number more then doubles.

U2 better then the Beatles LOL!!!!! The Beatles are legends. Sorry dude the beatles change the music landscape and U2 isnt even in the same league. 100 years from now U2 will be forgoten. The beatles was this generation Mozart. Bono is no John Lennon, Bono will never write a song like “Imagine”.

I agree with you mostly but Zooropa and Pop are great albums, where U2 experimented with music and maybe it didnt come off as they would have wanted it but the fans loved it! David is an idiot, he hasnt got a clue about music, BONO HAS WRITTEN BETTER SONGS THAN IMAGINE!!! e.g. With or Without You. The Beatles were only successful because in the 60’s music in general wasnt as good as it was in the 80’s 90’s and today, so The Beatles had less competition for number 1’s. U2 will be around for longer than The Beatles, U2 have changed with the times, while Paul Mccartney still plays The Beatles songs because all of his newer songs are rubbish. U2 are the better band and always will be

Josh you are the idiot my friend. When Rolling Stone magazine made a list of top songs 30. 20 of the songs came from the 60’s. The Beatles had 8 of them and U2 had ZERO. By the way Imagine was number 3 on that list so Bono has never written a better song then Imagine. Also, Bono’s main musical influence was John Lennon case closed your a moron who hasnt got a clue about music.

David, you are right and how can anyone actually believe that the 80’s and 90’s were better then the 60’s (Elvis, Dylan, Stones, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones and etc). With or Without you better then Imagine now that is funny. Also, Imagine is one of my favorite songs.

Firstly, I think we can agree that both bands have changed music in irreversible ways, especially the Beatles. I am inclined to believe that U2 is the better band ( I realise I’m in a minority! ), however each band has its strengths. The Beatles had an unbeatable melodic quality to their tunes, but something about them was always slight to modern ears. Bono admitted that U2 was “not fit to touch the hem of the Beatles” but added that U2’s songs contained more mass than the Beatles, more gravity. I agree. I can just get more out of a U2 song over an extended time.
Secondly who cares about Rolling stone Magazine? Nobody voted them to be the final word on good music.
Thirdly, Bono is better than Lennon. “Imagine” is a slow, enchanting good song. It’s just not that great. So often people tell me to listen to the lyrics and the meaning behind this song. What?! Imagine a world without suffering, wouldn’t that be nice. Wow! That’s revolutionary thinking there! How did he come up with that? Further you’d think one of the founding fathers of music could pick someone other than Yoko Ono (the ugliest woman ever!) for a wife.
U2 songs that are over 20 years old are still being continuously played on popular radio. I have to listen (unfortunately) all day to popular radio. (I’d kill to have the Beatles being played on those stations, trust me). And U2 is easily the most played Band, Hands down. Not just “Beautiful Day” or “Vertigo”. “Sunday Bloody Sunday”, “With or Without You” or “One”. All songs that are decades old.
So I personally prefer U2, however I love the Beatles as well. These are two of the greatest bands ever.

I have to say I find The Beatles one of the most over rated bands ever! Lohn Lennon, now thats a different story- John Lennon was a great song writer. In my humble opinion U2 is the better band, hands down, no questions asked. I love Imagine it is one the greatest songs of all time, however U2 have written some amazing, jaw dropping songs; for example All I Want Is You, Pride, One, Sunday Bloody Sunday and Where The Streets Have No Name. U2 has evolved and adapted through the years and and because of this 15,16,17 year olds are still falling in love with their music. Old and new. If you ask U2 fans what their favourite U2 song is, they won’t say Vertigo or The City Of Blinding Lights (which are both brilliant songs) they will say One or Pride or Sunday Bloody Sunday. U2 have already stood the test of time, they beat the Beatles hands down and will continue to demolish the awful dance music with which we now have to endure! I thought i should mention this is the opinion of a 16yr old girl.
U2 are and always will be a truely great musical sensation!

tim doesnt no any thing about music ,sure
imagine was a great song, but U2 does not suck. When you look at all the songs theyve come up with, like pride, beautiful day, where the streets have no name, i still havent found what im looking for, i mean U2 has changed music globaly. Im not saying that U2s better then the beatles, its just that U2 does not suck, im neatral

Their has never been a band or musician in the history of recorded sound that has consistently come up with fantastic records, but u2 buck that trend, time and time again they continue to create relevant, innovative and important music that still resonates today. Look at bands like radiohead, coldplay, the killers all of which openly acknowledge their influence. The beatles natural successor would have to be Bono and the lads from Dublin.

U2 are simply awesome! just ask Noel Gallagher, Coldplay and The Killers! Look at the influence of their music on another important band-Radiohead.Quite simply they have written some of the greatest music of all time and are quite rightly regarded as today s equivalent of The BEATLES.
