The Trouble with Tribbles

This Story: Season 2 Episode 15 (production code 2.13)
TOS Overall: Story 44, Episode 45
Trek Overall: Story 44, Episode 45
Airdate: 29 Dec 1967
Written by David Gerrold
Directed by Joseph Pevney

Notes

  • The tribbles returned several times in Star Trek.  First in the TAS episode “More Tribbles, More Troubles“. Later in the DS9 episode “Trials and Tribble-ations“. They also cameoed in a few of the movies (“Search for Spock“, 2009’s “Star Trek“, and “Into Darkness“.)  They made odd appearances here and there after that (Enterprise episode “The Breach“, Star Trek Discovery as a pet for Gabriel Lorca, and the Short Treks episode “The Trouble with Edward“).
  • William Campbell plays the Klingon captain Koloth.  He was in Trek previously as Trelane in “The Squire of Gothos“. He would return decades later as Koloth in the DS9 episode “Blood Oath“.
  • This is the first episode that mentions the “Organian Peace Treaty”, a reference back to the events of the first Klingon episode, “Errand of Mercy“.
  • The episode I watched for this marathon was decided to Majel Barrett Roddenberry.  I’m unclear where that came in – as it obviously wasn’t on the original.
  • The actor that plays Klingon agent Arne Darwin (Charlie Brill) returned decades later to play the same character in the DS9 episode “Trials and Tribble-ations”.
