Notes

  • Features an on screen dedication to Gene Roddenberry who had died 11 days prior to the broadcast of this episode.
  • The main deal of this episode is the return of Leonard Nimoy as Spock to Star Trek (although he only shows up in person right at the end of the episode at the cliffhanger)
  • The final time Mark Lenard reprises his role as Sarek – the character appears in this episode, and then was said to have died (offscreen).
  • There was a loose reference to the events of the Animated series “Yesteryear”.
  • The first time we ever see the Romulan home planet on screen.
  • The actor Malachi Throne appears here as Pardek. He was in the original series with Leonard Nimoy as Mendez in “The Menagerie“.  He was also the original voice of the Talosians in the original pilot “The Cage“.
  • The official title of the episode is “Unification I”, as opposed to “Unification Part I”.
