Trek Overall: Story 297, Episode 311
Airdate: 3 Jan 1994
Story by Jim Trombetta & Michael Piller

Notes
- The first episode to air in 1994.
- Martus is played by Chris Sarandon, the first husband of actress Susan Sarandon.
- As originally scripted, Mazur was going to be the son of Guinan, and have her appear here. When she was unavailable, all the references to Guinan were removed. The only part that remains was that he is an El-Alurian.
- The racquetball set was intended to be an ongoing thing for Bashir & O’Brien, but given the cost of setting it up and taking it down it was decided to replace it with something else. Darts (which had no construction cost).
- Jake Sisko does not appear in this episode.
- Two Rules of Engagement are mentioned:
#47 – “Never trust a man wearing a better suit than your own”
#109 – “Dignity and an empty sack is worth the sack”
