Notes
- The first of a three ep arc which seems to set up the Romulan War that was referenced in prior Trek series (mostly TOS). As far as I can tell it’s not officially a three part story, but three episodes connected. It really does feel like a three parter, though.
- A semi prequel to the TOS episode “Journey to Babel” as well.
- The director has said that the honor guard in this episode was intended to mirror the honor guard used in “Journey to Babel“.
- The shot of the Romulan city that was used in this episode was previously created for Star Trek: Nemesis. It was the first time it was seen in Enterprise.
- The seventh of 10 appearances of Jeffrey Combs as Shran.
- The first of two appearances of Lee Arenberg as the Tellarite ambassador Gral. He was also an alien named Pelk in Voyager’s “Juggernaut“. He also played three different Ferengi characters – Bok on TNG’s “Bloodlines“, Prak on TNG’s “Force of Nature“, and Gral on DS9’s “The Nagus“. Neither Gral character has anything to do with each other.
- The second of three appearances of Molly Brink as the Andorian Talas. The character previously appeared in “Proving Ground“.
- The first of three appearances of J Michael Flynn as Nijil. He would reprise the character in the following two episodes. He was also Zayner in TNG’s “The Hunted” and a Mazarite official in “Fallen Hero“.
- The first of three appearances of Brian Thompson as Romulan Admiral Valdore. He would reprise the character in the following two episodes. He was also the Klingon Klag in TNG’s “A Matter of Honor“, Ingrate in DS9’s “Rules of Acquisition“, a Klingon helm officer in Star Trek: Generations, and also Toman’torax in DS9’s “To the Death“.
- The sixth of nine appearances of Genevieve Anderson as an unnamed operations ensign. She also was an occasional stand in for Jolene Blalock.

Andorians to planet Babel on the same ship sounds familiar. But I don't care, this was super fun. Nice conflict between the two with a healthy amount of paranoia mixed in. Some good "WTF" stuff as well (Romulans, a ship that can mask whot it is?). Great setup for this arc, I don't recall the end.
