Notes
- This is the first of six episodes that comprise a story arc about the war and the station being controlled by the Dominion/Dukat. While not an actual six part story, it is fairly tightly bound together and from the DS9 companion book, they were all created together, then the writers went off and wrote their episodes.
- In universe, three months have passed since the events of the prior episode.
- The Dominion ship the Federation is using was the same one from the episode “The Ship“.
- The first episode with Barry Jenner’s “Admiral Ross”, an ongoing character in the Dominion War.
- The opening shot with the retreating Federation ships was one of the last scenes of that kind to use all physical model work – the series (and Trek in general) would go CGI fairly soon after this.
- The episode carries a dedication to Brandon Tartikoff, who died about a month prior to the airing of this episode. Tartikoff was at the time one of the people who requested the creation of this series for Paramount.
- This episode has one of the longest teasers in all of Trek – a little over 7 minutes.
