The Red Angel

This Story: Season 2 Episode 10 (production code 210)
DSC Overall: Episode 25
Trek Overall: Story 708, Episode 751
Airdate: 21 Mar 2019
Written by Chris Silvestri & Anthony Maranville
Directed by Hanelle M. Culpepper

Notes

  • The now deceased Airiam is replaced on the bridge by Lt. Nilsson.  This is amusing to me as Nilsson is played by Sara Mitich, who had played Airiam in Season 1 of the show.
  • The first Star Trek episode to use the words “gay” and “pansexual” in reference to sexual orientations.
  • We get a lot of background on Burnham’s biological parents here.  In addition her mother (Gabrielle) appears, played by Sonja Sohn.  This is the first of six appearances in the series by Sohn.
  • In the funeral scene, they use the “put the body in a coffin and shoot it into space” which has been used across numerous incarnations of Star Trek.

way to attract the Red Angel, setting a trap with Burnham as live bait. Stamets & Culber's dealing with Culber's resurrection gets some screen time, which I've enjoyed more than I recall from the past. They do trap the Red Angel as planned, but her identity was a surprise reveal at the end. Good ep.
