Sons and Daughters

This Story: Season 6 Episode 3 (production code 526)
DS9 Overall: Episode 127
Trek Overall: Story 386, Episode 408
Airdate: 13 Oct 1997
Writer: Bradley Thompson & David Weddle
Director: Jesús Salvador Treviño

Notes

  • This is the third of six episodes that comprise a story arc about the war and the station being controlled by the Dominion/Dukat.  While not an actual six part story, it is fairly tightly bound together and from the DS9 companion book, they were all created together, then the writers went off and wrote their episodes.
  • Alexander is far older then he should have been given the number of years that have passed since the character was introduced back in TNG.  Ira Steven Behr said part of this is due to real life labor laws relative to how long kids under 18 can be on a TV/movie set at any one time.
  • Alexander is played here by Marc Worden, the fourth overall actor to play the character.  Worden was also in a Star Trek Enterprise episode (“Affliction“) as an unnamed Klingon prisoner.  He would also return to play Alexander one last time in “You Are Cordially Invited“.
  • This episode doesn’t feel like it needed to be in the six episode war arc.  The story felt like it could be anywhere.

#StarTrekMarathon Deep Space Nine Ep 127 - Sons & Daughters - 13 Oct 1997 1/3 Multiple stories here. Worf's son Alexander gets assigned to Martok's ship, and we have to deal with "Worf as a Dad" stuff - for the last time actually. We have to deal with Dukat's daughter Ziyal and her friendship with

#StarTrekMarathon Deep Space Nine Ep 127 - Sons & Daughters - 13 Oct 1997 2/3 Kira. While we see Alexander one more time, this is the last time we deal with "Worf is a father" stuff., despite them setting it up for more. It's a plot thing I never cared for. One of my least fav Klingon episodes.

#StarTrekMarathon Deep Space Nine Ep 127 - Sons & Daughters - 13 Oct 1997 3/3 It's just a single short scene, but I LOVED the bit with Sisko & Martok making a bet over a barrel of bloodwine as to who gets back to DS9 first. Well handled by Avery Brooks & J.G. Hertzler. These two are a great pair.
