I watched the season premiere of Saturday Night Live this past Saturday. It’s something like Season 28 for the show, I think. For the last few years I think the show has been headed towards a down period again. The show has always been cyclical – we had a few good years the last few, and even in the down times, there’s always a few good bits here and there..
But now with TiVo, it seems to have developed into watch the opening skit, watch the monologue, watch Weekend Update, and be ready with the fast forward button, as most of the rest of it (and almost ALWAYS the final half an hour) is crap. I’ll still watch, mostly out of habit (I was 10 when the first episode aired, and I watched that one!), but I’m not filled with a sense of “this is gonna be cool”.
The new opening credit sequence is very cool, though – one of the best they’ve had in years, I think. Pretty bad when the title sequence was my favorite part of the show.
