NOTE: I discovered this entry on Aug 27, 2006. I had started it back in January of 2005, and never finished it, I figured I’d just post it as is now – if it looks disjointed, it’s because I never properly finished it.

A friend on another blog did a piece on “Things I Tivoed in 2004”. I read that and thought well, I can do that too, although I decided to expand on it a bit and post my TiVo Season Pass List. I’m also including some comments by me on all the things, as well as links where relevant.
I’d be curious if anyone else out there in TiVoland who has a blog also does the same thing. Be curious to see if anyone does.
Here goes…

01): Star Trek: Enterprise.
Star Trek Enterprise is the current incarnation of Star Trek. For those who don’t know, it’s a prequel, set roughly 80 years or so before the events of the original series. In it’s first two years, it was spotty, but in it’s third year it got really good, and in it’s current (fourth) season, it’s badass! It’s by far the best the show has been, and has produced a few epsiodes that rank up there with the best of Star Trek all time. If you aren’t checking it out, you should be. Unfortunately, it’s been cancelled, so this season is it’s last. There’s about 10 new episodes left as I write this, and it’s a crime if you miss them.
02): Dallas.
JR Ewing. Southfork – what else can I say? The saga of the Ewing family was required viewing when this show was new in the 1980’s. I started watching in 1979, right before the big bru-haha over “Who Shot JR” started. I watched it religiously from that point until it was canceled in May of 1991. In the fall of 2003, the channel SOAPNet started airing Dallas from Episode 1. I started watching in the fall of 2003, and finished on January 18th. That’s a new episode every day (M-F) for about 16 months. A lot of Ewing stuff.
03): The Simpsons.
What more needs to be said about this show? If you’re reading blogs on the Internet, it’s also likely you either actively watch the Simpsons, or have done so at some point in the past. This show gets a lot of grief for “not being funny” in the newer material. However, I dispute that. It was absolutely brilliant the first 5 or 6 years, then kind of waddled around around Season 10 or so, but the current one (Season 16) is absolutely brilliant, as it has been for the last 3 years or so. Still solid 16 years later.
04): Gene Roddenberry’s Andromeda.
This is a show created originally by Gene Roddenberry, the guy who created Star Trek. Back in the 70’s Gene wrote a lot of show pilots when he was trying to sell another series, and virutally none of them sold (although the old Questar Tapes was made briefly). Anyway, Andromeda is a good show, I rather liked the interaction of a group of characters where most of them can’t stand each other, yet still work together in a non sappy way. They’re also not afraid to kill characters, and do some really interesting ideas. I had stopped watching the show for awhile, because a lot of was “Let’s liberate these people”, and I got tired of seeing that story multiple times. But now it’s in it’s fifth and final year, and they completely reotooled the show where it feels a lot different, and rather fresh.
05): PBA Bowling.
The Pro Bowlers Tour. As I write this, I’m 39. I’ve bowled in a league every year (except two for health reasons) since I was 7. I like bowling a lot, and when I was a kid, I really watched the Pro Bowlers tour on Saturday afternoons. I loved watching Mark Roth & Earl Anthony as a kid. As the years went on, I found newer guys to like and dislike. I realize most people can’t stand to watch this on TV, but I like it, so screw it. :)
Also, after 30+ years of watching it on TV, they finally introduced something new in the 2004-2005 season that I can say I really like – and that’s the “Skills Challenge” where they have pro bowlers do goofy shots in competition with each other. Things like 45 pins on one lane, bowl with three balls in the same hand, get a strike with the wrong hand, things like that. I really dig that addition.
06): Wishlist: “Masterchef”.
This is a wishlist looking for a particular episode of a british comedy series I really like called Chef!
07): Wishlist: “Duke Nukem”.
This is a wishlist looking for anything to do with my company’s flagship product, “Duke Nukem”.
08): Xplay.
This is a gaming review show called Xplay. It used to be on the channel TechTV until G4 bought them out, and assimilated most of the TechTV stuff. Xplay was one of the few things to survive the merger intact. Likely because it’s about games anyway (which is what G4 was about before the merger). Plus it doesn’t hurt that they have Morgan Webb there to look pretty good to young boys and their videogames. :)
09): Drew Carey’s Green Screen Show.
This was a “sequel” of sorts to the show Whose Line is it Anyway? Whose Line ran for 10 years in the UK, and another 5 in the US, with two “faked” seasons running on ABC & ABC Family made up of episodes leftover in the can. Green Screen was made up of mostly Whose Line Veterans, and was the guys doing improv infront of a gigantic screen screen (and walls and floor) so that things could be animated around them later before broadcast. It died quickly – and I can see why. The format didn’t seem to work great – some of the bits they were doing were really not funny. Some of it WAS good however, so it wasn’t totally worthless. Only had about 6 shown episodes if I remember right. Officially it’s on hiatus, we might see some more of the finished episodes during the summer when not much else is going on.

11): NFL Countdown.
12): FOX NFL Sunday.
13): NFL Primetime.
These are various shows related to the NFL Season, two pregame shows, and one Sunday night highlights episodes. Not much else to say about these.
14): Baseball Tonight.
During baseball season (and a short time during spring training), there’s a (mostly) nightly baseball show on ESPN called “Baseball Tonight”. It shows highlights from all the games, and commentaries on various issues surrounding the game. Almost required viewing for a baseball fan, in my opinion.
15): The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
I only actually record the Monday night episode each week. That’s because Jay has a bit there called “Headlines” where he shows misprinted ehadlines, silly things that appear in magazines, and things of that nature. It’s his best bit in my opinion. Sometimes if I’m up, I’ll catch his monologue, and watch the guests if there’s some interest by me with the guest – same thing I did with Johnny Carson, too. :)
16): Wishlist: “Wayanay”.
This is a wishlist that’s looking for information on a band my wife and I like named Wayanay Inka. They’re from Peru, and I have to say that their music is quite unlike anything else I normally listen to. They always seem to be at the State Fair of Texas, they’ve never really broken big nationwide as far as I can tell, but they do have about 5 albums. We always look forward to them making an appearance at the State Fair.
17): Wishlist: “Tonkinese”.
This is a wishlist that’s looking for information on the breed of cat my wife and I have – Tonkinese (a mixture of Siamese and Burmese)
18): Wishlist: “Geocaching”.
A wishlist looking for the GPS hiking activity known as Geocaching.
19): Wishlist: “Xbox”.
A wishlist looking for information on the Xbox.
20): Wishlist: “SACD”.
A wishlist looking for information on the “Super Audio CD” format.
21): Iron Chef America.
Iron Chef America is a pretty faithful copy of the Japanese cooking show, “Iron Chef”.
