UPDATE Sep 29 2005: I just found out the other day that the mall is opening on Friday October 7th. As that is 8 days from the time I”m writing this, all the folks visiting this site looking to get hired are probably out of luck at this point, I’d imagine. I’m still surprised we haven’t seen a comprehensive list of stores published anywhere. Once the store opens, I’ll probably go to the mall and get a directory and post the actual list of stores here.

I’m also finding it interesting how high up on Google’s search this blog entry is. Thanks to all who have visited.

UPDATE Aug 1 2005: I have a significantly larger list of stores that will be in the mall now. See the bottom of the entry for my update….

Original Blog Entry on Mall:

I live in Garland, Texas, and there’s one thing this city has lacked is a big mall of it’s own. We’ve had to go to Plano, or to Dallas, or to Mesquite to hit a shopping mall. Garland hasn’t had one. But that’s changing now, with the opening of our own “Firewheel Town Center” mall in October of 2005. There doesn’t appear to be any official website for the mall (yet).

I’ve been trying to find out a list of what’s going in there. The biggest chunk of the information I can find is from the website of Michael Holden, who is a City Council Rep in Garland. On his page for the mall, he lists these stores as being there:

In the Mall:
Dillard’s
Foley’s
AMC Theater (16 screens)
Barnes and Noble
Linen’s & Things
Circuit City
Old Navy
The Gap
In the Surrounding Area:
Best Buy
Bed, Bath & Beyond
Lowe’s (Not new, This has been here for years)
Home Depot (Not new, This has been here for years)
Restaurants In the Mall:
Macaroni Grill
Bone Daddy’s
TGI Friday’s
Rockfish
On the Border
P.F. Changs (searching for a site for Pei Wei their fast/casual concept)
Big Bowl (Brinker Restaurant)
Restaurants In the Surrounding Area:
Chili’s (Not new, has been here for years)
McDonalds (Not new, This has been here for years)
————–
Here’s some stuff I’ve been able to find out on my own.

1) Tonight I found that there’s a job application online for a company called “Limited Brands”. They are the parent company of these (so any of them could be in the mall): Victoria’s Secret, Express, Bath & Body Works, The Limited, White Barn Candle, Henri Bendel.

2) I also saw where Build a Bear will be in there. Link.

3) Company called Coldwater Creek should be here. I found this link which lists a job for a store manager.

4) This link shows that Pier 1, Fox & Hound, Snuffer’s are going to be here. Snuffer’s is a restuarant, not sure what Fox & Hound is, I think it’s another restaurant.

There’s probably more, but I’m writing this at 3:30AM, and I’m pretty tired. If you find any more, or find an official website and/or list, please let me know.

The sad thing is that since I live in South Garland, it will still be significantly closer for me to go to Mesquite. It’s 5 minutes away. The Firewheel mall in North Garland is about a 20 minute drive, depending on how many traffic lights I hit. We’ll probably visit it, but the only unique store there that would cause us to go there is Build A Bear. Everything else listed so far is common stuff that you can get anywhere.

UPDATE AUG 1: I received the monthly newsletter the city of Garland publishes today, and they had a very large list of stores in the mall. The article says this isn’t the complete list, but here goes:

Barnes & Noble
Circit City
Linens N Things
Firewheel Day Spa & Salon
Zales Jewelers
Journeys
Build a Bear Workshop
Riceboxx Asian Cafe
Nine West
Sam’s Fine Jewelry
Norman Cosmetics
Nestle Tollhosue Cafe
Ann Taylor Loft
Lenscrafters
COldwater Creek
Select Comfort
Yankee Candle Shop
Victoria’s Secret
Express
James Avery Craftsman
Bath & Body Works
Eyemasters
Paterie & Co
Footlocker
Bombay Co
Kay Jewelers
Claire’s
Pier One
Eddie Bauer
Brookstone
American Eagle Outfitters
Lane Bryant
Friday’s
Trade Secret
Christopher & Banks
General Nutrition Center
DSW Shoe Warehouse
Cosina Caliente
Beauty Nails
Aldo
Stride Rite Shoes
Coldstone Creamery
Hat World
Bath Junkie
Charlotte Russe
Brighton Collectilbes
Sunglass Design
Street Corner News
Candy World
Nasr Jewelers
Club Libby Lu
Celebrity Kids
Talbot’s
Fossil
Regis
Pac Sun

Most of these I have no idea what they’re supposed to be. I still stand by my original statemnt that since I live about 5 minutes from Town East Mall, there’s nothing unique that would make me want to drive out there except Build A Bear. That’s unfortunate, as I do live in Garland, but the Mesquite mall is so much more convenient for me.

What else is interesting is that this big list doesn’t list some of the stores that I had in my smaller update from before.

Does anyone know when the new Olive Garden is opening? I also heard that there is a Fudruckers going in where the old Luby’s was.
I think it is great that we will have more options for dining out and shopping.

Town East mall is closer to us as well, but I and the Mrs. would be going to this new mall instead of Town East.
I’m sure the remodeling Town East is doing will be nice, but the stores & restaurants listed in Fire Wheel are some of our favorite places.
As far as Fox & Hound? They cut me off last visit so no more money from The Lush at the Skillman location. :-P

I’m so excited about the new mall! I’ve lived in North Garland all my life and have craved a nearby mall since I was a teenager.
Just wanted to post that I’ve opened a new learning center, Oxford Learning, in the same shopping center as Target. Come see us! We have a half-day preschool that has no more than six children to a class, and every child has customized curriculum that is made just for them!
We also offer after school tutoring for ages 6 through 18. These children also receive customized curriculum that teaches them how to learn more effectively.
I am a former Garland ISD teacher and have worked teaching teachers across the southern United States. Come see us and find out how we can help your family!

What restaurants are going to be here? I’ve heard so many different things I have no idea. I’ve heard On the Border, Macaroni Grill, Snuffers, Fridays, Johnny Carrino’s, Big Bowl, Pei Wei, etc. So far, most official sites only say Friday’s. I really want more restaurants in this area. There’s nothing now!

I am excited to have a new mall closer, but what I really would like to see is a Gym Kids or Little Gym or some type of thing like this for kids. Also will there be any kind of play area since it is outside? This is what we love about the indoor malls…the play areas for the wee ones. I live in Richardson, but on the Garland side. My 5 year old wants to take the Karate and gym classes, but there are none close.

just to let you know there is a wacky bear factory at town east mall– there used to be a build a bear here at town east but it was just too darn expensive and no one really shopped there, wacky bear is not much better but it is at least a little more affordable.

What’s with all the idiot teenyboppers whining about Hollister. Christ its just a store, there clothes are ugly, plain, and over priced. You kids all try way to hard to look the same. There is something called individuality, you should try it. The people runnign Hollister are making a killing because a fool and his money are soon to part.

WHATS WITH MISS M BEING A BRAT ABOUT WHATS IN STYLE , MUST BE A FREAK OR SOMETHING RIGHT?

  45. Miss M says:
    October 18, 2005 at 10:36 PM

I have my own style. And no i am not a goth or freak, thats just as lame and contrived as the hollister/abercrombie look. I prefer to have clothes imported from europe, and have custom mad clothing. Perhaps you have heard of coture. I have no problem spending lots of money on clothes, i jsut think its dumb that people bay so much for basic staples like jeans and t-shirts. espcially considering that stuff costs a few dollars to make in some third world sweat shop. but you kids are too ignorant to care, as long as you look cool right.

Ewww Why do you care if teenagers want a Hollister in the mall, they have nice clothes, don’t be mad because you are ugly. People ask for a Hollister because thats were they shop and there isent on at the mall, go to Goodwill or somthing you can afford
