Revolution of the Daleks

This Story: 2021 New Year’s Day Special. Production code 12.10
Overall: Story 296, Episode 868
Airdate: 1 Jan 2021
Written by Chris Chibnall
Directed by Lee Haven Jones

Notes

  • This is the final story for both Ryan & Graham, who leave at the end of this story.  Graham does make a brief cameo at the end of “The Power of the Doctor“, but Ryan is not seen again after this.
  • This also features the return of Robertson from the earlier “Arachnids in the UK“.
  • Finally features the return of John Barrowman as Capt Jack Harkness who finally gets to meet the 13th Doctor.  He is a full character in this story.  Due to Barrowman’s real life legal issues, this could be his final appearance in the series.
  • At the end of this episode, there was a short 30 second teaser released called “Welcome to the Tardis” which featured the announcement of new companion Dan Lewis, played by John Bishop.  Said trailer can still be viewed on the BBC’s Youtube channel today.

It's new Year's, so Daleks! This also features the (proper) return of Capt Jack as well as the Jack Robertson character who tries to use the Daleks for his own ideals. Jack pic.twitter.com/HmWmRWh8yw

rescues the Doctor from prison which she was at end of last series. From there we get a new iteration of the Daleks, created in a new way - mostly works, but as you would pic.twitter.com/3cVZdA8fUS

would expect, the existing Daleks don't like that - hence Revolution. This is the last story for Graham & Ryan who get a nice scene at the end. Squished Daleks are funny. pic.twitter.com/QeCfMwfoTW
