Notes
- The female crewman in the shuttlecraft was supposed to be Janice Rand, but when she was let go, they had to rewrite the character to be someone else.
- That character (Yeoman Mears) was played by Phyllis Douglas. Douglas later returned in the season 3 episode, “The Way to Eden” as one of the space hippies. As a fun side note, her first acting role was in Gone With the Wind (yes, that one) at age 2.
- This was the first episode with the physical shuttlecraft prop that people could walk in and out of and have it be on set.
- Was the first episode to air in 1967.
- This episode was loosely based off of a 1939 film called “Five Came Back” which starred a very young Lucille Ball, the goddess of Star Trek.

Spock leads a science expedition to a planet, but the shuttlecraft crashes. It's a race to fix the shuttle and escape the planet before the Enterprise is forced to leave. We also get some good character pic.twitter.com/3TaCNQ9t6q

moments with command decisions by Spock and the death of a few of the crewmen. Top episode, another one filled with great drama and character moments. One of the few where I prefer the OG sfx to the new. pic.twitter.com/CGCjfJVUxj
