11001001

This Story: Season 1 Episode 15 (production code 116)
TNG Overall: Episode 15
Trek Overall: Story 115, Episode 117
Airdate: 1 Feb 1988
Written by Maurice Hurley & Robert Lewin
Directed by Paul Lynch

Notes

  • The 11001001 in the title is binary, but translates to nothing “human readable” (or the character ©). It does however refer to the names of the individual Binars that appear here.
  • Troi does not appear in this episode (the third of the season to date).
  • The character of Quinteros was played by Gene Dynarski.  He appeared in two separate original series episodes – “Mudd’s Women” & “The Mark of Gideon“.
  • The Binars do not appear in Star Trek again until the Lower Decks episode “A Few Badgeys More” (2023).
  • Footage of the Enterprise-D approaching space dock is reused footage from “Star Trek III: The Search for Spock“.

I always liked this one - they issue an "abandon ship" order while in space dock, which I thought was an amusing presence. The Binars are on the ship to do computer upgrades, and while doing that, they steal the pic.twitter.com/WQDA1Lob9F

ship with Riker & Picard trapped in the Holodeck. They need to escape the fantasy they're in, and regain the ship. Loved this due to the uniqueness of the situation. Plus it's a good holodeck story, too. pic.twitter.com/76Atq2yKpl

The "Bourbon St. Barn" neon light in the New Orleans bar (called "Low Note" in the script) in #StarTrekTNG's "11001001"↖️ was originally created for the 1985 "Murder, She Wrote" episode "Murder to a Jazz Beat"↗️ where the name of the bar originates ↙️↘️. The sign was rented for the TNG episode.
