Notes
- Features of course the return of James Doohan as Montgomery Scott. He was the fourth (and final) TOS era actor to do so.
- The shot of the TOS Enterprise era bridge (in full) in the holodeck was a re-use of a screen grab from the TOS episode “This Side of Paradise“. The only parts of the bridge they actually built for this episode are the small sections that either Scotty or Picard sat down for. There is extensive detail on the Memory Alpha site about what exactly was built and what was not.
- Deanna Troi does not have any interaction with Scotty in the aired episode beyond the crew goodbye at the end. There was a deleted scene on the Blu-Ray where they did interact.
- The crashed ship that Scotty is rescued from was in real life a model previously used as a shuttle in “Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country“, but modified slightly. It ended up being modified again and became the basis for the runabouts used on Deep Space Nine.
- Several TOS episodes are referenced here: “Elaan of Troyius“, “Wolf in the Fold“, “The Naked Time“. “By Any Other Name“, as well as the third, fourth, fifth, & sixth movies. Additionally the events of the TNG episode “Galaxy’s Child” are a talking point between Scotty & LaForge.
- There was a novel written for this episode which expands on a few points in the plot.
- The scene with Scotty in the holodeck was to include versions of the NCC-1701 crew for him to interact with, but it wasn’t filmed that way due to cost.
- The concept of a Dyson’s sphere (and the man Freeman Dyson) as mentioned in the episode is quite a real thing – there’s an article about it on Wikipedia.
- The sound effect of the transporter on the Jenolan uses the same sound effect that the transporter in TOS did – at least at the start.

James Doohan appears as his TOS character here - but not a hologram, fully alive in this time due to a transporter jury rig. It's for good reason this is a fan fav. It has a lot - conflict, comedy, emotion, and a

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek TNG Ep 130 - Relics - 12 Oct 1992 2/3 heaping pile of nostalgia. Scotty mostly interacts with Geordi as he should. We get a scene with Picard on the bridge of Kirk's Enterprise. They built a tiny sliver of the old set to film that on. A really fun ep - totally works.

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek TNG Ep 130 - Relics - 12 Oct 1992 3/3 I absolutely loved that they sent Scotty off at the end of the ep in a shuttlecraft, leaving his character canonically "out there", and not just killing him off. Thought it was a nice way to close out the character.
