This Story: Season 3 Episode 20 (production code 162)
VOY Overall: Episode 62
Trek Overall: Story 491, Episode 518
Airdate: 19 Mar 1997
Written by Lisa Klink
Directed by Marvin V. Rush

Notes

  • Running fired torpedo count: 19 / Confirmed crew deaths since pilot: 13 (crew of 141).
  • A working title for this episode was “Heritage”.
  • The Nasari ships are a re-use of the model used for a Romulan scout ship in TNG’s “The Defector“.
  • The Taresian starship appeared in the past a few times. It was a Mercenary ship in TNG’s “Gambit” and a Miradorn raider in the DS9 episode “Vortex“.
  • Deborah May plays Lyris here. She was Haneek in the DS9 episode “Sanctuary“.
  • Christopher Carroll played Alben here.  He was also Gul Benil in the DS9 episode “Second Skin“.
  • Kristanna Loken plays Malia here.  She’s far more well known as being the T-X in the movie “Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines“.
  • Some of the plot elements of this episode (and indeed some dialogue at the end) really reminded me of the Red Dwarf episode “Psirens“.

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Voyager Ep 62 - Favorite Son - 19 Mar 1997 2/2 would stay that way thru rest of the series. Producers got cold feet & abandoned that idea. There's not much going for this. Plays out a bit like a teenage boy's "Mary Sue" episode, which is odd as it was written by a woman.

Kristanna Loken – all the way to the left.

My prior physical copies of Star Trek: Voyager looked this way.
