Story by Naren Shankar (Parts I & II) & Christopher Hatton (Part I only)
Teleplay by Nareen Shankar (Part I) & Ronald D. Moore (Part II)
Directed by Peter Lauritson (Part I) & Alexander Singer (Part II)
Notes (Part I)
- Tallera was played by Robin Curtis, who was of course the second Savvik in Star Trek III & Star Trek IV.
- Ensign Guisti was played by Sabrina LaBeauf who was well known as Sondra Huxtable in the Cosby Show.
- Vekor was played by Caitlin Brown, who I know well as Na’toth from Babylon 5.
- The bridge of Baran’s ship is a redress of the Enterprise’s battle bridge set, with pieces being cannibalized from the Enterprise bridge from Star Trek V & VI.
- The mercenary’s ship bridge was later re-used as the bridge of the USS Pasteur in the TNG finale “All Good Things…“
- Contains the largest phaser battle in the show.
- The alien bartender’s vest was later re-used in Star Trek Voyager’s episodes Caretaker & Repression.
- There is an Admiral in this episode named Chekote – no relation to the similar sounding name from Voyager.
Notes (Part II)
- It was always assumed so, but in this episode it was revealed that Vulcan was one of the founding member plants of the Federation.
- A Vulcan sanctuary named “T’Karath” was mentioned here. We actually see said sanctuary in the Star Trek: Enterprise episode “Awakening“.
- Yadalla Prime was supposed to be Yonada, the destination planet in the TOS episode “For the World is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky”. It was changed when a Romulan influence was needed for the story.
- Barradas III was a reference to Berates, one of the names Redjac used in “Wolf in the Fold“.
- The statue in Baran’s room can be seen in the commander’s office in the DS9 episode “Shattered Mirror” (in the Empok Nor station).

Now of course we know he really isn't, so it's just biding one's time till he shows up. But the crew thinks he's gone which has some intersting emotional reactions (& was the bulk

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek TNG Ep 156 - Gambit Part I - 11 Oct 1993 2/2 of the ep. Turns out he's on a mission with a group of pirates - something I think GR would not have liked. Has Robin Curtis (Savvik in Star Trek III & IV). A lot of "WTF is going on". Cliffhanger better than I remember.

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek TNG Ep 157 - Gambit Part II - 18 Oct 1993 1/2 Due to Riker & Picard being off ship, Data is in command w/Worf as his first officer. That was an intersting combination - especially when Data did Picard's uniform adjustment. Most of this is Picard & Riker working to escape

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek TNG Ep 157 - Gambit Part II - 18 Oct 1993 2/2 to escape the ship they're on without being discovered. Did like the look into Vulcan lore. In the end, it was just "ok", I'm not entirely sure it needed two parts, although some bits I did enjoy. Did like Robin Curtis tho.
