Notes
- Both this episode and the Short Treks episode “The Brightest Star” were made at the same time, because they use the same location for the Kelpian Village. It’s a park in Toronto called “Scarborough Bluffs“.
- The Kelpian language was created by Trek veteran Mark Okrand, who created the Klingon language too.
- The voice of the Ba’ul voice over was from Mark Pellington. He also directed two episodes of Star Trek: Short Treks – “Q&A” & “Children of Mars“.
- Saru’s sister Siranna was played by Hannah Spear. She also portrayed this role in “Such Sweet Sorrow Pt II” as well as the Short Treks episode “The Brightest Star“. She also played a different Kelpian female named Issa in “Terra Firma Pt I” & “That Hope is You Pt II“. She was also a Klingon named Jen in the Strange New Worlds episode “The Broken Circle“.
- This episode had one of the rare scenes where a character (Saru) walks into a turbo lift (bridge), is in the lift, and then walks out elsewhere on another deck. I always loved when they do that.
- The Ba’ul interrogation room looks an awful lot like the Discovery transporter room, just redressed.

Saru returns to his home planet knowing that everything his people believed was a lie. The other is Dr Culber dealing with now being alive again. Both are good

character explorations. We also dig into the search for the Red Angel, which intensifies the need for Spock. We also have Ash Tyler back on the ship, now working with Section 31. We do get into Kelpian culture a lot. This is a fairly talk-y episode with some good emotional payoffs. Enjoyed it a lot.

As a side note, this episode LOOKS gorgeous. The Kelpian homeworld scenes are amazing. It was apparently shot outside at a park in Toronto called Scarborough Bluffs. If this were shot in 4k (it wasn't), it would be even better looking.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scarbor...
