This story plays with format a bit. There is a pre-titles sequence, albeit short. This was also written for the last Tardis crew, which is why it has a more advanced feel pic.twitter.com/LpxoNGz9vD

then the other stories around it. The Brig/UNIT stuff had to be wedged in. This is the 1st time we see the Hartnell console in color, although it's outside of the Tardis. pic.twitter.com/rHv6bRWUMC

They continue to change format, by having last ep recap before the titles. That doesn't last long, tho. The capsule from Ep1 lands, and UNIT tries to move the capsule to pic.twitter.com/gkRdcuks68

their HQ, but in transit, they're attacked. This is an oddly paced ep, as most of it is around the recovery, transportation, hijacking and re-hijacking of the capsule. pic.twitter.com/bRy7t2augr

#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 267 - Ambassadors of Death 3/7 (Serial CCC, Story 53) - 4 Apr 1970. #DoctorWho 1/2

Well, the capsule is opened, but the astronauts aren't there, which seemed like what I thought was happening. Red tape is introduced to this story, mostly due to Carrington. pic.twitter.com/cHJXhHu1lM

#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 267 - Ambassadors of Death 3/7 (Serial CCC, Story 53) - 4 Apr 1970. #DoctorWho 2/2

The Doctor realizes the real astronauts are still in space. Some incidental music when Ambassadors are moving is quite nice. Rescue plans afoot, and Liz is chased by baddies. pic.twitter.com/5qhEnpllvU

#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 268 - Ambassadors of Death 4/7 (Serial CCC, Story 53) - 11 Apr 1970. #DoctorWho 1/2

The Doctor tries to figure out what the aliens are trying to say to us. he also figures out who is behind the plan. Liz is kidnapped & forced to help the people w/the aliens pic.twitter.com/5fOXo1R9F2

Liz creates a device that reminds me of the thing from "Spock's Brain" to control Spock. The "Ambassadors" start killing people, but it's unclear who is controlling them. pic.twitter.com/mBI1qWNBMl

#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 269 - Ambassadors of Death 5/7 (Serial CCC, Story 53) - 18 Apr 1970. #DoctorWho

The Doctor eventually launches the rocket which will rescue the actual astronauts, but it's sabotaged. Most of this ep is back and forth red tape and squabbling. pic.twitter.com/KqoXkdHrew

#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 270 - Ambassadors of Death 6/7 (Serial CCC, Story 53) - 25 Apr 1970. #DoctorWho 1/2

We finally get somewhere with who is behind the aliens, and we find the astronauts. The aliens said that their "ambassadors" were not returned, and if they aren't, they will pic.twitter.com/KrG9l8plgW

destroy the earth. The military wants to launch nukes at the ship, & the Doctor tries to save everyone, but is kidnapped and reunited with Liz, whose legs are still awesome. pic.twitter.com/D2JMq39hZ8

They kept that cool music when the Ambassadors were around; really liked that. The Doctor agrees to build a translator machine for the military. The general arrests the Brig. pic.twitter.com/6Yab48jBhg

The Doctor uses the translator to get the Ambassadors to help to take out the General and avoid a war. This was an OK story, felt it dragged a bit, but not bad in any way. pic.twitter.com/fmHRIb3aNX

These blurs of colour from Ambassadors 4 reminded me of the “BIFF!” text overlays on the old Batman ’66 TV series. :)

A Pertwee era staple. A factory with pipes everywhere.
