UPDATE Sep 29 2005: I just found out the other day that the mall is opening on Friday October 7th. As that is 8 days from the time I”m writing this, all the folks visiting this site looking to get hired are probably out of luck at this point, I’d imagine. I’m still surprised we haven’t seen a comprehensive list of stores published anywhere. Once the store opens, I’ll probably go to the mall and get a directory and post the actual list of stores here.

I’m also finding it interesting how high up on Google’s search this blog entry is. Thanks to all who have visited.

UPDATE Aug 1 2005: I have a significantly larger list of stores that will be in the mall now. See the bottom of the entry for my update….

Original Blog Entry on Mall:

I live in Garland, Texas, and there’s one thing this city has lacked is a big mall of it’s own. We’ve had to go to Plano, or to Dallas, or to Mesquite to hit a shopping mall. Garland hasn’t had one. But that’s changing now, with the opening of our own “Firewheel Town Center” mall in October of 2005. There doesn’t appear to be any official website for the mall (yet).

I’ve been trying to find out a list of what’s going in there. The biggest chunk of the information I can find is from the website of Michael Holden, who is a City Council Rep in Garland. On his page for the mall, he lists these stores as being there:

In the Mall:
Dillard’s
Foley’s
AMC Theater (16 screens)
Barnes and Noble
Linen’s & Things
Circuit City
Old Navy
The Gap
In the Surrounding Area:
Best Buy
Bed, Bath & Beyond
Lowe’s (Not new, This has been here for years)
Home Depot (Not new, This has been here for years)
Restaurants In the Mall:
Macaroni Grill
Bone Daddy’s
TGI Friday’s
Rockfish
On the Border
P.F. Changs (searching for a site for Pei Wei their fast/casual concept)
Big Bowl (Brinker Restaurant)
Restaurants In the Surrounding Area:
Chili’s (Not new, has been here for years)
McDonalds (Not new, This has been here for years)
————–
Here’s some stuff I’ve been able to find out on my own.

1) Tonight I found that there’s a job application online for a company called “Limited Brands”. They are the parent company of these (so any of them could be in the mall): Victoria’s Secret, Express, Bath & Body Works, The Limited, White Barn Candle, Henri Bendel.

2) I also saw where Build a Bear will be in there. Link.

3) Company called Coldwater Creek should be here. I found this link which lists a job for a store manager.

4) This link shows that Pier 1, Fox & Hound, Snuffer’s are going to be here. Snuffer’s is a restuarant, not sure what Fox & Hound is, I think it’s another restaurant.

There’s probably more, but I’m writing this at 3:30AM, and I’m pretty tired. If you find any more, or find an official website and/or list, please let me know.

The sad thing is that since I live in South Garland, it will still be significantly closer for me to go to Mesquite. It’s 5 minutes away. The Firewheel mall in North Garland is about a 20 minute drive, depending on how many traffic lights I hit. We’ll probably visit it, but the only unique store there that would cause us to go there is Build A Bear. Everything else listed so far is common stuff that you can get anywhere.

UPDATE AUG 1: I received the monthly newsletter the city of Garland publishes today, and they had a very large list of stores in the mall. The article says this isn’t the complete list, but here goes:

Barnes & Noble
Circit City
Linens N Things
Firewheel Day Spa & Salon
Zales Jewelers
Journeys
Build a Bear Workshop
Riceboxx Asian Cafe
Nine West
Sam’s Fine Jewelry
Norman Cosmetics
Nestle Tollhosue Cafe
Ann Taylor Loft
Lenscrafters
COldwater Creek
Select Comfort
Yankee Candle Shop
Victoria’s Secret
Express
James Avery Craftsman
Bath & Body Works
Eyemasters
Paterie & Co
Footlocker
Bombay Co
Kay Jewelers
Claire’s
Pier One
Eddie Bauer
Brookstone
American Eagle Outfitters
Lane Bryant
Friday’s
Trade Secret
Christopher & Banks
General Nutrition Center
DSW Shoe Warehouse
Cosina Caliente
Beauty Nails
Aldo
Stride Rite Shoes
Coldstone Creamery
Hat World
Bath Junkie
Charlotte Russe
Brighton Collectilbes
Sunglass Design
Street Corner News
Candy World
Nasr Jewelers
Club Libby Lu
Celebrity Kids
Talbot’s
Fossil
Regis
Pac Sun

Most of these I have no idea what they’re supposed to be. I still stand by my original statemnt that since I live about 5 minutes from Town East Mall, there’s nothing unique that would make me want to drive out there except Build A Bear. That’s unfortunate, as I do live in Garland, but the Mesquite mall is so much more convenient for me.

What else is interesting is that this big list doesn’t list some of the stores that I had in my smaller update from before.

I agree with you the way you view the issue. I remember Jack London once said everything positive has a negative side; everything negative has positive side. It is also interesting to see different viewpoints & learn useful things in the discussion.

My husband and I visited the mall last Saturday evening. First we drove by the store fronts. It is enourmous. Put on good walking shoes. We were only able to get to a small portion. We parked near Dillard’s. We shopped. Very friendly, good service, quality merchandise, great store layout. Then we strolled down the street to other stores like Coldwater Creek, Talbots, Nestles Cookie, and looked at the fountain area. Beautifully designed mall, but we had the same thoughts, what about Texas weather???? You will definitely have to decide where you want to shop and park nearby. Too big to park at one end and walk to the other end. They need some type of tram service. Restaurants or theater weren’t open yet. Stores that did have snacks and beverages were very busy. Nestles is definitely worth the wait. The Mall is a good place to go for a strohl, conversation, and something different.

For those of you who asked for directions, the mall is located at the corner of the George Bush Turnpike and Hwy 78 in far north Garland. The easiest way to get there is to get on Bush and head east. The mall is where Bush currently ends at its eastmost point.

As a Rowlett residence I’m just happy to have mall closer to my side of the Dallas Universe. Town East and Richardson square have become too crowded so if you gotta contend with crowds ya might as well be closer to home, right?

Hollisters? Other shops teens are pinign for?
Jeez, that’s all we need is more rude loud teens haning out in malls without parental supervision (not that they’d do anything about it anyway).
They’re the biggest reason I hate shopping, especially in malls.

  21. Sarah says:
    December 18, 2005 at 8:27 PM

Hey Halo…There are rude adults like you who need to grow up and stop steriotyping teenagers. I don’t know what your talkin about us being rude and loud but you sound pretty rude yourself and if you think we are loud why dont you shop on the internet and not show your face in public, because no one wants a scrooge like you around for Christmas. I feel sorry for you.

will it be hollister and Abercrombie anytime soon..b/c most teenagers go there and shop there..but instead if ya’ll have one..we don’t have to go all the way to Stonbrier or willowbend or even grapevines..i mean..it’s far..so tell me please..

Does anyone else wonder how many of the OMG WILL THERE BE A HOLISTER? were posted by the same person typing a different name and email each time?
As for the mall, I’ve been to it once and it is nice, but kind of a hastle. I go to the mall because you can find everything you need in different stores that are close together. The out door mall is too spead out. They also should not have opened it before they had any resturants open. I had to leave when I got hungry and didn’t bother coming back.
On a side note there is a Holister in town east and I can’t understand anyone wanting to pay 50 dollars for some jeans with stains on them and holes in them. You can find jeans like that at goodwill for about two bucks or even buy a new pair for like 20 and spill your own paint on them… Get a clue

I contacted Earthbound to see why they closed so quickly. They said it was just a temporary store. I have a feeeling thats a lot of BS. Why are there three Starbucks at the mall? There is one near the center of the mall, one in B&N, and one by Potbelly. Is there confirmation on what will be in faze 2. I’ve heard there is going to be a Sports authority behong Circuit City, I also heard that will be an Eathan Alllen and World Market. I have a feeling it will be a world market, which is probably why Earthbound left.

I am soo excited about this mall! i love the fact that it is outdoors- people need to get out more! The restaurants around it are GREAT and the stores are so convenient, not to mention the most popular stores of every kind! The architecture is awesome, reminds me of a little town. How charming! Now when people go on dates to the ‘mall’ it will be a more romantic setting than your normal indoor circle malls. Should consider those horse and buggies.
    Love these postings!

I am currently wheel chair boulnd.
Last week on a trip to Firewheel we encountered the following problems:
In at least two stores wide aisles were blocked by store displays–making access impossible. There were no automatic doors and single doors were a tight squeeze.
To eat lunch at Pei Wei we had to park a block away to get a handicapped parking and a handicap ramp. The doors had the same problem as the stores.
It is definitely not adhering to the Persons with Disability Act.

  46. Parking Guy says:
    October 18, 2006 at 3:58 PM

You’re complaining that you can’t park right in front of the store with your handicapped plate? I have to walk much further than one block usually to get to the store I want to get to. Oh waaahh.

Hello! I am an employee of Simon Properties. I have worked here at Firewheel since Jan. 2005. I would be more than happy to answer any questions about our mall, and let you know about all the great programs, and new stores that are coming. We have a lot going on at Firewheel. With the construction of the new townhomes going full force, and a whole list of fun stuff for the day after Thanksgiving. As far as the comment from the wheelchair bound customer, just an FYI to everyone; we do not own the strip center that is behind Dillard’s, near 78. i.e. Pei Wei. That is not part of Firewheel Town Center at all. I would be more than happy to speak with Suzanna (the mall director) on any concerns, or questions that you may have.
    Have a Great Day!

I don’t know what Joe Siegler is talking about! I live about 3 minutes from town east mall and I prefer to drive out to firewheel to do my shopping. The town east mall has gone down hill fast. It is not a pleasent place to shop in the least. Firewheel is a great place to spend the day. My boyfriend and I like to grab some coffee from the starbucks at the mall and walk around all the shops. I love that it is outside. It never feels crowded. We are anxious to see what other restaurants and shops are going up.
