The Leisure Hive

This Story: Season 18, Story 1. Production Code 5N
Overall: Story 110, Episodes 532-535
Airdates: 30 Aug 1980 – 20 Sep 1980
Written by David Fisher
Directed by Lovett Bickford

Notes

  • This is the first story with John Nathan-Turner as producer.  He would remain in this role (at times against his will) until the classic series ended in 1989.  The show also radically altered the title sequence, the theme tune, and the show’s logo at this point.

The show itself regenerates! New producer, series musician, title sequence, logo, outfit for Tom, & theme song. This variant of the theme song is probably my 2nd fav. Have very pic.twitter.com/fQiSx0E4X2

few memories of this beyond K9 exploding. That's down to new producer JNT really hating the dog. K9 gets abused a lot until he's written out. Makeup on the Argolins is good! pic.twitter.com/n0eLPgpZij

The locals are wanting the Doctor to help with some sort of experiment, yet at the same time are concerned about the stranger in their midst. Interesting angle finding out that pic.twitter.com/LqEVVR3QlA

the locals are sterile, and die quickly due to a weird metabolism quirk. There's also a monster lurking around I haven't figured out how it plays into all of this just yet. pic.twitter.com/xhIBwA93lO

An experiment gone wrong results in the Doctor visibly aging, and Romana works to reverse it. However in typical Doctor Who fashion, they've been locked up, accused of murder pic.twitter.com/uzLfWhCywu

when they haven't done that. Where have we seen that plot before? There's an odd political subplot here relative to the fact that the planet is sterile that I don't fully get. pic.twitter.com/9BewZdBUA1

In 2 eps of this I thought they were Peter's titles, still not used to no diamond logo for Tom. The start of this story posed an interesting concept dealing with time, but in the pic.twitter.com/F2YzKgtVhY

end it was just another local going power mad and wanting to have control for himself. Story started off good, ended meh. Did like Tom being cloned a bunch, tho. That was fun. pic.twitter.com/An2o4rO9M3
