Notes
- The first appearance of Majel Barrett as Troi’s mother Lwaxana.
- The only time whel Lwaxana’s assistant Homn speaks.
- It is established here that Betazoid weddings are done in the nude.
- The frequently used Betazoid word “Imzadi” is defined here as “my beloved”.
- Worf & Wesley do not appear in this episode.
- The second (on screen, but first filmed) appearance by Armin Shimerman in Star Trek (after the Ferengi in “The Last Outpost“). He is the betazoid gift box – and his only non Ferengi role in all of Star Trek.
- This is the only episode of Star Trek directed by Richard Compton. He would later go on to produce and direct the US Sci-Fi series “Sliders“.
- Compton appeared in the original series as “Washburn” in the episode “The Doomsday Machine“. This episode started filming 20 years to the day that Compton filmed for Doomsday in an amusing coincidence.

Troi's mother Lwaxana turns up to deal with an arranged marriage. The bulk of the episode is about that, but.. Lwaxana is a pretty over the top comedic character, and she delights in making Jean-Luc uncomfortable. pic.twitter.com/iw4RiQUw1k

The bulk of this ep is for comedy, and that's fine. There is a secondary plot about a plague ship, which is where Troi's betrothed ends up. Data's "petty bickering" line is a riot. A very good ep (no Worf or Wesley) pic.twitter.com/jW6AdOTzUF
