Notes
- The first episode where the Romulan intelligence service is named (The Tal Shiar). The name of it is apparently a reference back to the tal-shaya Vulcan technique used in the TOS episode “Journey to Babel“.
- The first episode where Worf has a ponytail – this would remain through the rest of the series, the TNG movies, and the character’s time on Deep Space Nine, and Star Trek: Picard’s third season.
- The production approached Joanne Linville to reprise her Romulan commander character from the TOS episode “The Enterprise Incident“, but she wasn’t available.
- The episode briefly touches on Spock’s unification movement as last seen in “Unification II“. It’s the last time it will be until the Star Trek Discovery episode ‘Unification III‘ in 2020.
- The basic structure of this episode was used again in Deep Space Nine when Kira was altered to look Cardassian (in that show’s “Second Skin“).
