Endgame
This Story: Season 7 Episodes 25 & 26 (production codes 271 & 272)
VOY Overall: Episodes 171 & 172
Trek Overall: Story 592, Episodes 627 & 628
Airdate: 23 May 2001
Story by Rick Berman, Kenneth Biller, & Brannon Braga
Teleplay by Kenneth Biller & Robert Doherty
Directed by Allan Kroeker
Notes
- Running fired torpedo count: 86 (seven this episode). This contradicts the hard limit set in “The Cloud” of 38. This was never justified on screen. The limit was basically ignored when they got to 38.
- The final episode of the series, and by extension of nearly all of the characters. Exceptions will be listed later.
- As originally aired, this was a double length episode. In syndication it is aired as two episodes, and are counted as such because of that.
- This episode was directed by Allan Kroeker. He also directed the finales for Deep Space Nine & Enterprise.
- This episode was novelized by Diane Carey. It is still available here.
- The Doctor’s long standing backstory about choosing his name for himself ended here when he’s referred to as “Joe”. However that timeline was erased, so it’s unclear if that name sticks.
- The daughter of Tom Paris & B’Elanna Torres is born in this episode. Her name was Miral.
- The third story with the Borg Queen in Voyager. In the prior two, she was played by Susanna Thompson. In this one however, the original actress returned – Alice Krige. She originated the role in Star Trek: First Contact.
- Richard Herd makes his final appearance as Tom Paris’ father – “Admiral Paris”.
- A cadet named “Jessie” was played by an actor of the same name. He was dying of cystic fibrosis, and his appearance here was a payoff of the “Make a Wish” foundation.
- It would seem that the events that Admiral Janeway untertook to change the past was the same crime that Anorax was guilty of in “Year of Hell“.
- The only time we see the Borg Queen assimilate someone directly.
- Neelix makes an appearance in one scene on a video screen.
- Numerous episodes from the series run are referenced here – a few too many to jot down quickly, IMO.
- This episode won two Emmy Awards. They were “Outstanding Music Composition For A Series (Dramatic Underscore)” and “Outstanding Special Visual Effects for a Series”.
- Spock’s dialog from the past is quoted by Tuvok here.
- Kate Mulgrew would return to the franchise in live action as Admiral Janeway in “Star Trek: Nemesis” and in 28 episodes of “Star Trek: Prodigy” (although it was in animated form in Prodigy).
- Robert Beltran would return as Chakotay in 21 (animated) episodes of “Star Trek: Prodigy“.
- Robert Duncan McNeill would return in one (animated) episode of Star Trek: Lower Decks – “We’ll Always Have Tom Paris“.
- Ethan Phillips would return to voice Neelix in one (2d animated) episode of Star Trek: Short Treks – “Holograms All the Way Down“.
- Robert Picardo would return to voice the Doctor in 17 episodes of “Star Trek: Prodigy” as well as appear in live action as The Doctor in 9 episodes of “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy” (as of June 2026).
- Tim Russ would return to play Tuvok in two episode of Season 3 of “Star Trek: Picard“. Tuvok would also appear in one episode of Star Trek: Lower Decks (“Grounded“), but he did not speak there.
- Jeri Ryan would return as Seven of Nine in nearly all of the 30 episodes of Star Trek: Picard (she didn’t appear in five of them).
- Garrett Wang would return as Harry Kim in two episodes of Star Trek: Lower Decks – “Fissure Quest” and “The New Next Generation“.
- Only two main cast characters from Voyager not to appear elsewhere (as of Jun 2026) are: B’Elanna Torres & Kes.
- There is a lot of background info about the genesis and creation of this episode on the Memory Alpha link below. I HIGHLY recommend reading it.

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Voyager Episode 171 & 172 - Endgame - 23 May 2001 2/5 The main thrust here reminds me a bunch of the S5 ep Timeless. Janeway gets Voyager home, but not everyone made it back. So after some time, future Janeway decides to break every rule, and time travel back to the

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Voyager Episode 171 & 172 - Endgame - 23 May 2001 5/5 Thanks to everyone who interacted with all my Voyager posts. I'm going to take a couple of days break before I start with Enterprise as tomorrow is my grandma's funeral. It's long road getting from there to here.
