Notes
- Wesley does not appear in this episode.
- The working title for this episode was “Send in the Clones”. That line is uttered in the episode.
- Just after arriving on Mariposa, Dr. Pulaski notices a sculpture holding a large sphere reminiscent of the receptacles from the TOS episode “Return to Tomorrow”, which also featured Diana Muldaur.
- According to the author, the story was intended to be a commentary about immigration, due to the xenophobic nature of some aspects of American culture.
- In the original version of this episode, one of the missions listed on a view screen in the meeting room was “Diplomatic mission to Alderaan” (Star Wars). This was changed to Aldeberan in the remastered version.
- There’s a music queue at 32:35 of the episode that sounds EXACTLY like a similar piece of background music used in the original series.
- The woman who plays Breanna was Rosalyn Land. She’s done a bunch of modern Big Finish Doctor Who audios. A list is on her IMDB page.

Intended as a commentary on immigration policies, it caused a bit of a stir. Its plot surrounds cloning, the killing of clones, and some questionable Irish stereotypes. Not awful, but not one you go "Lets watch

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek TNG Ep 44 - Up the Long Ladder - 22 May 1989 2/2 THAT one". The main cloning part isn't introduced until 18 min left in ep, so it had a rushed entry - they spend way more time on the Irish folks, which included Riker going all horndog on one of them. Overall a lesser ep.
