Notes
- Ronald D. Moore has said the episode’s title is a reference to Jack Nicholson’s Joker from the 1989 Batman move who said “Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?”.
- The planet that Vreenak was coming from when he goes to DS9 was Soukara. That’s the same planet that Worf & Jadzia were at on their mission a few episodes back in “Change of Heart“.
- The second episode in a row where Weyoun only appears as hologram.
- The first time we see a Romulan shuttle since TNG’s “The Defector“.
- This episode is structurally set similar to “Necessary Evil” & “Whispers” in that it’s mostly flashback and “current time” in this one is just Sisko’s log.
- Rule of Acquisition mentioned: #98 – “Every Man has his price”.
- There is a novel called “Hollow Men” which is both a sequel to this episode, and a prequel to the episode “His Way“.

Sisko has enough of the war and decides he has to bring the Romulans into the war. But to do it he has to get his hands dirty and do it subversively by using Garak. The most anti-Roddenberry ep

#StarTrekMarathon Deep Space Nine Ep 143 - In the Pale Moonlight - 13 Mar 1998 2/2 of #StarTrek there is. It is an amazing piece of drama. I adore the narration format of Sisko's log running thru this and Sisko's slow descent into helplessness and feeling trapped over what he's done. GREAT stuff!
