The Maquis

This Story: Season 2 Episodes 20-21 (production codes 440/441)
DS9 Overall: Episodes 40 & 41
Trek Overall: Story 306, Episodes 320-321
Airdate: 25 Apr 1994 & 2 May 1994
Story by Rick Berman, Michael Piller, Jeri Taylor, James Cocker (Pt I), Ira Steven Behr (Pt II)
Teleplay by James Cocker (Pt I) & Ira Steven Behr (Pt II)
Directed by David Livingston (Pt I) & Corey Allen (Pt II)

Notes

  • A loose sequel to the TNG episode “Journey’s End“, which aired in real time about a month before this.
  • The Maquis settlement uses the same matte painting that was in TNG’s “The Ensigns of Command“.
  • Sakonna is played by Bertila Damas.  She was also Marika Wilkarah in Voyager’s “Survival Instinct“.  She also appeared in two episodes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine as Amy Santiago’s mother Camila.
  • In Part II, the Cardassian named Legate Parn is played by John Schuck.  He’s more well known as the Klingon Ambassador in The Voyage Home & The Undiscovered Country.  He also appeared in one Voyager episode and two Enterprise episodes.
  • The first time we see Odo only partially become something else.
  • The first time we see a side of Dukat that isn’t that of just a villian/bad guy.
  • Rule of Acquisition Mentioned – #214: “Never begin a negotiation on an empty stomach”. (Part I)
  • Rule of Acquisition Mentioned – #3: “Never spend more for an acquisition than you have to”. (Part II)
  • Part II was the final episode of Star Trek directed by Corey Allen.  He directed 5 episodes of TNG and 4 of DS9 total.
  • To this point I’ve been marking episodes that Jake has not appeared in.  I’ve decided to stop doing that as he’s not in more than he is in.  :)

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Deep Space Nine Ep 40 - The Maquis Pt I - 25 Apr 1994 2/2 disgruntled Federation officers. They're rebelling against having their homeland ceded to the Cardassians in a land deal. Both sides see 'em as traitors/terrorists. Some good character stuff due to the conflict.

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Deep Space Nine Ep 41 - The Maquis Pt II - 2 May 1994 1/2 First up I have to say I liked this story far more than I remembered from the past. Political drama isn't always my favorite, but I thoroughly liked this. Some good angry acting by Avery Brooks here. Overall this

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Deep Space Nine Ep 41 - The Maquis Pt II - 2 May 1994 2/2 is a good indicator of the darker path DS9 takes than TNG and TOS before it. Loved Dukat in this. Got to see Odo use his shapeshifting form like a bullwhip. Thought this was a good ending to the two parter.
