Notes

  • Running Decon Gel Scene Appearances: T’Pol (2), Trip (2), Hoshi (1), Malcolm (1). There is somewhat of a decon scene here, but it’s just Trip and no “gel” – it’s how he escaped what happened to the rest of the crew.
  • The Ferengi are never named as a race here, which very BARELY makes this episode fit with established first contact continuity as established in “The Last Outpost“.
  • Speaking of that episode, the Ferengi energy whip is seen for the first time since that episode.
  • The Ferengi are played by actors famous for roles in other incarnations of Trek.  Three of them are well known and listed below.  The fourth (Matt Malloy, Grish) made no other appearances in televised Star Trek.
  • Muk was played by Clint Howard, who was Balok in TOS’s “The Corbomite Maneuver“, Grady in DS9’s “Past Tense, Part II“, an Orion smuggler in Discovery’s “Will You Take My Hand?“, and Buck Martinez in Strange New Worlds’ “Under the Cloak of War“.
  • Ulis was played by Ethan Phillips, who was a different Ferengi (Dr. Farek) in TNG’s “Menage a Troi“, and a Maitre’D in Star Trek: First Contact.  He was of course more famously known as the primary character Neelix on Star Trek: Voyager.
  • Krem was played by Jeffrey Combs who has had quite a few roles in various incarnations of Trek including the Andorian Shran in Enterprise, the Ferengi Brunt on DS9, and most famously for various incarnations of Weyoun also on Deep Space Nine.
  • Given this is a few hundred years before the Ferengi we knew at this point, their Rules of Acquisition is smaller – just 173 here vs 285 in the 24th Century.  They also say the 6th rule is “Never let family get in the way of profit” which was altered slightly from the version said in DS9’s “The Nagus” where it’s said to be “never let family get in the way of opportunity”.
  • I believe this is the only appearance of the Ferengi on Enterprise.

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Enterprise Episode 19 - Acquisition - 27 Mar 2002 1/2 When they first announced this Ferengi ep, I was like "WHAT ARE YOU DOING? THIS BREAKS EXISTING CANON!". They skirted that by never mentioning them by name, so it works, but... It's a silly ep. Four Ferengi take over
